Bundeswehr will expand its mission in North Africa and the Balkans

The German Federal Cabinet decided to expand the Bundeswehr missions in North Africa and the Balkans, the Deutschlandfunk radio station informed on May 31.

It is reported that the participation of the Bundeswehr in the European military operation EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina will last until mid-2024. Up to 50 German soldiers are taking part in the mission.

The German Cabinet has also approved an extension of German participation in the Blue Helmets mission off the coast of Lebanon. Deutschlandfunk explains that the UN mission supports the Lebanese government in protecting the country’s borders.

For this purpose, the Bundeswehr plans to provide up to 300 soldiers until mid-2024.
