Kurginyan: Russia is not Europe, but it is part of the Western world

Russia has always been an alternative West, philosopher and political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 11 on the Right to Know program on TVC.

Russia is something absolutely different than the West, the philosopher noted.

Let us take the widely known statement ‘Ukraine is Europe’… But we are not Europe! What can we do with it? That’s a fact. We are not Europe at all,” the political scientist added.

Of course, we are part of the Western world. In the sense that we are a Christian civilization. Indeed, in our code, in our culture, the Russian language, the Russian movement in the 18th, 19th, 20th centuries, Sergey Kurginyan explained.

He stressed that at the same time Russia is a different civilization, an Orthodox civilization. This is a great difference from the West.

This difference primarily refers to Byzantium. Moscow is the third Rome, i.e. the successor to Byzantium. And when we said that we were successors to Byzantium we thus said that Byzantium was not Rome; however, both Byzantium and Rome are the West,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.

The philosopher stressed that Russia has always been an alternative West.

‘What kind of an East do you want to be, an East of Xerxes or of Christ? Vladimir Solovyov asked. Therefore, the idea is that Russia is always a kind of an armored train on the West’s siding track,” the political scientist concluded.
