Kurginyan recalls how the Soviet people prepared for the Great Patriotic War

Starting from the 1930s, before the Great Patriotic War, entire society took place in the Soviet Union undertook an intensive preparation , said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 9 during the Victory Day video address.

“The whole country has actually been preparing for war since 1930, when Stalin said we have ten years to accomplish what other countries of the world have been striving for centuries,” recalled Kurginyan.

As for the armed forces, for the most part, it was a peasant army, which can be seen on the photographs taken at the frontlines at the time.

“And then, these people received both the technical training, and much more than that, particularly when we talk about the urban population. They were prepared for more then the peace time, because they knew that the peace is not going to last,” said the leader of the Essence of Time.

As an illustration of the degree of readiness in the society, Kurginyan read the poem The Story of an Unknown Hero by Samuel Marshak, a famous Soviet poet. The poem describes the rescue of a girl from a burning house by an ordinary young man in Moscow, who climbed up a drainpipe and saved the child.

The political scientist emphasized that the GTO (Ready for Labor and Defense) badge, mentioned in the poem, even during the Brezhnev years meant “a certain, rather high, preparedness, which now, as we understand, is not even in sight.” At the same time, the poem emphasizes that there were many such guys prepared for work and defense in Moscow at that time.

“This readiness was later on display during fierce battles, when, with a great difficulty, we defeated the enemy, who, God knows how well, was also preparing for war,” noted the expert.

The poem is not a banal pathos, it was written on the basis of a real story that happened in Moscow in 1936, stressed Kurginyan. Then 27-year-old student from the workers’ faculty, Vasily Mikhailovich Buratsky, saved a woman from a burning house.
