By legalizing the expropriation of Rosneft assets, Germany is undermining investors’ confidence in itself, according to a summary from the theater of war published in The Essence of Time newspaper, no 531.
Deputies of the lower chamber of the German parliament have won amendments to the legislation allowing the sale of Rosneft’s share in the oil refinery in Schwedt without nationalization. Previously, it was planned to nationalize the assets on which the country’s energy security depended.
“In Germany, international law takes precedence over national law, but in fact a regulation is being adopted that legitimizes the expropriation of assets of foreign investors based on the political situation.
Rosneft controls 12% of oil refining in Germany; selling off its assets would have an extremely negative impact on investor confidence,” The Essence of Time‘s editorial reads.
