Dodik: Republika Srpska will become an independent state

26.04.2023, Belgrad.

Republika Srpska will separate peacefully from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and become an independent state, Milorad Dodik, the president of the self-proclaimed state, said on the Serbian TV channel RTS on April 25.

Dodik said that the membership of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina was imposed. According to him, several nations are trapped within the existing borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have no prerequisites for living together.

“Republika Srpska will be an independent state and will achieve this peacefully. We have no military plan; all our plans are not military but peaceful,” Dodik said.

He added that Republika Srpska’s parliament will make the decision on independence one day.

Bosnia and Herzegovina was created as a result of the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Bosnia and Herzegovina consisted of three parts: the Muslim-Croat Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Brcko District. The first occupies about 51% of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the second about 49%, and the third less than 1%.

Recall also that Bosnia and Herzegovina intends to join NATO. Republika Srpska is against it.
