The Russian company Unmanned Vehicles presented a prototype of the K-5 jet-powered bomber was presented the Ekipirovka exhibition at the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy trade show on April 21.

“We made the UAV jet-powered to gain speed. The maneuvering capabilities allow it to move at that speed,” a company representative said commenting on the prototype.

The kamikaze drone is designed for autonomous action. Its artificial intelligence system is connected to conventional optical equipment as well as thermal imaging. It is reported that the UAV will eventually receive a self-contained inertial navigation system, which will make external radio channels unnecessary for its control.

The flight range of the drone will be 90 km. It will be able to carry up to 6 kg of payload. The vehicle will move at a cruising speed of 200 km/h and will accelerate up to 400 km/h.

According to the idea of the designers, the operator only has to bring the UAV to the target area, and it will be able to aim at the target independently. Tests are currently underway and should be completed by the end of this year.

The K-5 is the first Russian-made jet-powered kamikaze drone known to the press.
