Palestine and Israel agree to create mechanism to address violence

19.03.2023, Egypt.

Palestine and Israel have agreed together to create a mechanism to combat violence, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on March 19.

The agreements were reached during a meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh. The Palestinian Authority, Israel, Egypt, Jordan and the U.S. agreed on it in February 2023 during a previous meeting in Aqaba.

Both Palestinian and Israeli representatives agreed on the need for de-escalation on the ground and an end to violence. The sides expressed their willingness to end unilateral measures for a period of three to six months.

Israel agreed to stop discussing the construction of new settlements for 4 months and to stop issuing permits for outposts for 6 months.
