German journalists assess the sentiments of Artemovsk residents

10.03.2023, Berlin

Die Welt chief correspondent Steffen Schwarzkopf, who visited Artemovsk [Bakhmut] admitted that the city’s residents support Russia, according to the reportage published on Die Welt’s YouTube channel on March 10.

“When we arrived in Artemovsk to observe the evacuation announced by the Ukrainian government, there were people there who said, ‘And we don’t want to leave. We’re waiting for the Russians to liberate the city,” Schwarzkopf said.

In his opinion, the city’s residents are pro-Russian: they cooperate with the Russian authorities and expect their lives to be better under Russian control. This contrasts sharply with the information spread by the Western media about Artemovsk residents’ desire to fight in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed units.

It is noteworthy that the journalist’s attempts to convince the citizens to evacuate failed.

The residents cited the example of Mariupol, which, according to them, is recovering well after joining the Russian Federation.
