No one expected that the conflict in Ukraine would require so many weapons and ammunition, said philosopher, political scientist, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on the Right to Know program on the TVC TV channel on February 18.
He said that the situation with the quantity of ammunition needed could be described by the proverb “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go astray“.
A medium conventional war requires a very large quantity of ammunition. And since both Russia and the rest of the world believed that such wars were a thing of the past, no one knew how many shells Russia could supply and at what rate they would be expended.
“A shaft of fire that was used for a while and then stopped is about 50,000 shells a day,” the political analyst said.
The analyst said the number of artillery and other barrels, including rocket launchers, and how long they are used, taking into account the rate of fire, should be counted to estimate the amount of shells needed.
“How many guns? How many are needed? How many are at hand? And I don’t think anyone knew how many there were. It said that much on the paper, and if we had that much, we would have solved the first part of the SMO’s tasks by now. But the ditches turned out to be different. Are we the only ones with ditches like this? – No, they turned out like this for everybody,” said Kurginyan.
He pointed out that the ammunition crisis has occurred not only in Russia, but in the US and NATO as well, since a positional medium war of attrition “requires absolutely different resources than had been planned“.
However, NATO countries have a powerful military-industrial complex, which will be rebuilt to provide Ukraine with everything it needs for the war with Russia.
At the Munich Security Conference, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO should arm itself comprehensively, modernise its own armies and strengthen ties between EU and US countries in preparation for a confrontation with Russia that “will not end after the conflict in Ukraine” in any scenario.
