In the long term, NATO member-states should send Western fighter jets to Ukraine, it may take six months. Czech President-elect Petr Pavel said in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit.

Pavel’s inauguration will take place on March 9.

“In the long term, Ukraine should be supplied with fighter jets, among other things,” he said. If such a decision is made, it will take six months or more to implement, Pavel believes, “because it requires training of specialists, flight and ground personnel.”

The day before, the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl stated that it would take the USA from 3 to 6 years to produce new F-16s for Kiev, while it takes 1.5-2 years to deliver outdated models.

Kiev requested from Washington up to 128 4th generation fighters, but the US believes that Ukraine needs 50-80 F-16s to replace its air force fleet in the future.
