03.02.2023, Bangui.

The government of the Central African Republic (CAR) has submitted an application to the UN Security Council to expand the presence of Russian instructors in the country, Alexander Bikantov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Central African Republic, said, RIA Novosti informed on February 3.

According to him, 1,890 military instructors from Russia are already in the republic.

“The government is interested in increasing their number. Quite recently, Bangui [the capital of the Central African Republic – Rossa Primavera News Agency] submitted a corresponding application to the UN Security Council in accordance with the established procedure,” the ambassador said

According to Bikantov, the CAR army defeated most of the illegal armed groups in the country with the support of Russian instructors. He noted that the republic’s authorities highly appreciate the work of Russian specialists.

In February 2018, the CAR authorities signed a peace agreement with representatives of the armed groups to end the years-long conflict. About a year ago, it was reported that about 95% of the country’s territory was under the control of the authorities.

Russian instructors are in the CAR with the notification of the UN Security Council and the sanctions committee and are engaged in this country to train soldiers of the government army, as well as consultations on the fight against illegal armed groups.
