Argentinian President: Latin America has refused to supply arms to Kiev

30.01.2023, Buenos Aires.

According to TASS, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said on January 29 in Buenos Aires, during a press conference after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, that Latin American countries have no plans to supply arms to Ukraine.

The Argentine president also noted that neither Argentina nor other Latin American states intend to send weapons to war zones.

“Argentina and Latin America are not considering sending weapons to Ukraine or any other conflict zone,” Alberto Fernandez stressed.

During the press conference, the Argentine president also said he condemned Russia’s operation in Ukraine. However, Fernandez refrained from criticizing the intervention of EU member states in the conflict in Ukraine.

“I can’t give my point of view on what decisions states make. But I know that the Chancellor and I want more than anything to restore peace, as soon as possible, and in this, our views are the same,” explained President Fernandez.

Earlier, Colombian President Gustavo Petro rejected a US request to transfer Soviet- and Russian-made weapons to Ukraine. At the same time, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow would keep an eye on possible arms supplies to Ukraine from Latin America, as this is related to the legal restrictions on arms supplies to third countries.
