Grandson of Charles de Gaulle: The West has prepared sanctions against Russia “a long time ago”

04.01.2023, Paris.

Western sanctions as an economic war against Russia were prepared a long time ago, Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of the founder of the Fifth Republic General Charles de Gaulle, said this as AgoraVox reported on January 4.

He said, “The scale and depth of the sanctions show that they were prepared a very long time ago. In fact, it’s a very real economic war that the Americans are benefiting from”.

According to him, the USA sells its gas to Europe at four to seven times the price of the domestic market, and now “almost every European suffers from this.”

He noted that these sanctions are causing an economic and financial crisis that is absolutely unprecedented.

Regarding the accusations against Russia for creating an energy crisis, de Gaulle noted that the Russians have certainly stopped supplying fuel, but “after we stopped buying it from them.”

“So I say: it’s not the Russians’ fault, the Russians are just defending themselves, because there are 11,000 sanctions against them, plus the ninth package,” de Gaulle said.

And according to him, Russia’s defensive position is quite natural and legitimate.

France is interested in maintaining a balance between East and West for stability in Europe.

“I believe that public opinion in France is beginning to understand that the United States has managed to use the Ukrainian crisis to destabilize Europe,” he said.
