15.12.2022, Warsaw.

The cause of the explosion at the Polish police headquarters was a shot from a grenade launcher that had been given to a police commandant in Ukraine, Wyborcza wrote on December 15.

According to newspaper sources, the shot occurred due to careless handling of the weapon. The grenade launcher was stored in a special room, but at the time of the incident, “police officers who were in the room were playing with it,” the source said.

Polish police earlier said the incident resulted in damage to the ceiling, which appears to have been damaged by the gunshot. It is also noted that the office of police chief Jarosław Szymczyk was located above the room where the explosion occurred.

Jarosław Szymczyk was stunned and temporarily deaf as a result of the incident, but now he’s okay. In addition, an officer of the national police headquarters was slightly injured, but he did not require hospitalization.

After the explosion, the Polish authorities asked Ukraine for explanations.

Szymczyk received the gift during a working visit to Ukraine on December 11-12, where he met with the leadership of the Ukrainian police and emergency services.
