Kurginyan: Lenin’s message to Russian bourgeoisie during World War I was to quit stealing

The Russian bourgeoisie’s appetite for super-profits was not suppressed after the February 1917 revolution in Russia; this is one of the main reasons why the State collapsed by October 1917. Philosopher, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan made this statement on November 7 in his speech on the occasion of the Great October Socialist Revolution anniversary. The text of the speech “The Impending Catastrophe and How to Combat It. Lenin’s Lessons” was published in issue 507 of the Essence of Time newspaper.

The habit of making super-profits is at the root of the shortcomings revealed during the mobilization, of the failures in the organization and supply of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, on which the fate of the country depends. In this regard, Lenin’s work “The Impending Catastrophe and How to Combat It,” published in September 1917, is highly relevant today, says Kurginyan.

Here is what Lenin wrote in his article about the “orgy of theft” of the Russian bourgeoisie and the state of affairs in September 1917:

“We are nearing ruin with increasing speed. The war will not wait and is causing increasing dislocation in every sphere of national life.

Yet the slightest attention and thought will suffice to satisfy anyone that the ways of combating catastrophe and famine are available, that the measures required to combat them are quite clear, simple, perfectly feasible, and fully within reach of the people’s forces, and that these measures are not being adopted only because, exclusively because, their realization would affect the fabulous profits of a handful of landowners and capitalists.”

Kurginyan explained that this article is not about copying the measures Lenin proposed for rescuing the country in 1917; it gives a methodology that the Russian ruling class needs to adopt. Thus, Lenin states that the new democratic government in Russia was unable or unwilling to stop the capitalists from making “fabulous profits” while country was devastated and in a dire straits.

First of all, it means suppressing the orgy of theft and super-profits and persuading those who unleash this orgy that if they temper themselves and submit to military necessity, their power will last longer and they will certainly steal less, however for a longer period,” the political analyst pointed out the lesson to be learned from Lenin’s work, which is very relevant to today’s situation in Russia.

Lenin suggested that measures should be taken to stop this “orgy of theft“. These measures, Kurginyan stressed, were successfully applied by the Convention after the Great French Bourgeois Revolution and are the essence of “bourgeois prospects” and “bourgeois viability“.

Without it, Russia would not have been able to withstand and did not withstand in the “ordinary world war” when the Entente was on the side of the Russian Empire. “We will have to stand in conditions where the West will not abandon the hysterical, deliberate and at the same time some kind of ruthless anti-human pressure on the country. And this country is half the size of the Russian Empire,” he added.

The political scientist has urged the current Russian ruling class to demonstrate political viability, following the example of the French bourgeoisie during the French bourgeois revolution, and not to fail like the Russian bourgeoisie did after February 1917.

According to Kurginyan, the current ruling class in Russia is extremely inclined to copy Western technology and Western principles in all fields, accustomed to living by pay offs from the resale of goods and services, and will not be able to address challenges of the new times. It is not capable of performing the tasks of creating the military-industrial complex the country needs, the electronics industry and much else, so for the country’s survival it is important to nominate new people and involve alternative forces in solving problems.
