Iranian expert Ehsan Mohavedian explains reason of Aliyev’s harsh statements against Iran

Azerbaijan has turned against Iran because it has failed in its programs to create the NATO corridor of Turan or the Zangezur corridor, Iranian international expert Ehsan Mohavedian stated on November 12 in the NEWS.am Force Factor program.

In his opinion, this is the main reason for the negative assessments and groundless claims about Iran’s principled policy in the Transcaucasus.

Relations between the countries have strongly deteriorated and Azerbaijan has launched an active anti-Iranian information policy in the state media. In particular, the expert noted, the Azerbaijani media play up the separatist idea of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province.

These programs contradict the interests of the Azerbaijani people, but Aliyev blindly follows them. Due to the lack of public support, the Baku government has tied its future to serving the interests of the Zionist regime of Israel, NATO, Great Britain and the United States in the region,” Mohavedian believes.

He added that the very essence of this corridor program is anti-Iranian, anti-Armenian, anti-Russian, anti-Chinese, especially in terms of energy. You also have to consider the constant talk of Panturkism and Panturanism.

Therefore, it did not take much time to understand that such a geopolitical plot against Armenia and Iran is impossible to implement,” the expert said.

For this reason, as a result of the trilateral talks in Sochi, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was forced to accept the 1991 Almaata Declaration, which deals with the borders of the Soviet period and the territorial integrity of Armenia, he said.

According to him, under such circumstances, the likelihood that Azerbaijan will succeed in carrying out the Zangezur corridor is close to zero.

How is it possible that Aliyev, who seeks to conquer Artsakh, suddenly agreed in Sochi to postpone talks on the future of Karabakh for an indefinite period? In such a situation, Azerbaijan has to justify its defeat because of public opinion, making various demands,” Mohavedian believes.

The agreements reached in Sochi strengthen the position of Nagorno-Karabakh, including thanks to the Russian peacekeepers in the region, the expert said. He added that the current situation in Karabakh is much worse for Azerbaijan now than it was before the Karabakh war in 2020.

If Aliyev wants to help the people of Azerbaijan, he should think about the national interests of his country, not trust Israel and Turkey, and instead talk to his people, not his enemies,” Mohavedian concluded.
