Cuba celebrates the 105th anniversary of the Great October Revolution

Cuban authorities held a military ceremony marking the 105th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution next to the Mausoleum of a Soviet internationalist soldier in Havana, Prensa Latina reported on November 7.

The event was presided over by Communist Party Central Committee member and Division General Victor Rojo, head of the Political Department of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. The Russian and Belorussian embassies took part in the ceremony.

The participants laid flowers at the mausoleum of Soviet soldiers who died on the Caribbean island on an international mission.

Division General Jose Carrillo, president of the Association of Cuban Revolutionary Fighters, stressed the importance of the event, which he claimed opened a new era in human history and was one of the most important events of our time.

He also underscored the assistance provided by the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to the nascent Cuban Revolution and the relationship of brotherhood and bilateral cooperation that has endured for decades.

For his part, Belarusian Ambassador to Cuba Valeriy Baranovsky noted that this historic event united peoples with the common values of justice, work and equality. The revolution promoted economic, technological, scientific, cultural, sports and social progress of the republics that were part of the USSR. According to the ambassador, the ceremony is a tribute to the generation that wrote beautiful pages in the history of humanity.
