Kurginyan: Western apologists have been the salt of the Russian earth for many years. What now?

10.09.2022, Aleksandrovskoye.

It is impossible to withstand a long-term confrontation with the West having a population that was transformed into consumerism and that includes about ten million of the West’s apologists, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on September 7 on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station.

Kurginyan reminded that over the recent thirty years, the salt of the Russian earth was a pro-Western person speaking fluent English, sharing the Western values, and seeking emigration to the West or to make Russia a copy of the West.

The Russian culture and education were responsible for raising such a person. “Indeed, I did not mishear where they we talking about a qualified consumer and all that nonsense,” he noted.

Now as we are in a military confrontation with the West, education as a system cannot be changed in a minute, Kurginyan believes. “Besides, I cannot see any desire to do so,” he stressed.

According to the political scientist, he shares the outrage of A Just Russia party’s leader Sergey Mironov over the situation at the Journalism Department of the Moscow State University where professors and students who support President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the special operation in Ukraine suffer from persecution. However, he indicated, the system itself has been raising its gravedigger over 30 years.

“There is a cluster of the society, over ten million, which is tuned to its own wave, and which does not care for anything patriotic.”

Kurginyan also spoke about another part of the population, which is an absolute majority. In his opinion, no one is encouraging the patriotic feelings in this majority.

“It is being transformed into certain kind of a consumer: on the one hand, a little patriotic and a little at ease, … and [on the other hand] simplified.”

Kurginyan explained that a catastrophic simplification of the consumer that has been raised cannot remain unnoticed if, for example, we look at the music videos that gain many million views at the video hosts.

The Russian media, which need views and ratings, as well as politicians, who need to win elections, have to appease the simplified public thus exacerbating the simplification. “All this is in a conflict with the strategic tasks of withstanding,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement concluded.

In 2007, then minister of education Andrey Fursenko, speaking at a conference of the Seliger-2007 Youth Forum, said, “The disadvantage of the Soviet education system was its attempt to form a creative person, but now we need to raise a qualified consumer capable of using in a qualified manner what other people create.”
