Russian general explains the weakness of Israel's Iron Dome air defense system

12.08.2022, Moscow.

Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system is effective only against simple rockets, Army General Yury Baluevsky, former chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff (2004-2008), said in a foreword to the book “Alien Wars – A New Paradigm” published on August 10.

“The creation, deployment and use of the Iron Dome complex was undoubtedly a great technical achievement of the Israeli defense industry and armed forces,” the general noted.

He stressed that the complex is designed with the peculiarities of Israeli adversaries in mind. They are developed to prevent mass strikes with primitive unguided rockets.

The general noted that the rockets being used by the Palestinians and the Lebanese Hezbollah grouping follow simple ballistic trajectories. Complicating the flight trajectory would overload the computing power of the Iron Dome systems and reduce its effectiveness.

The Kiev authorities have repeatedly said they are negotiating with Israel on Iron Dome deliveries.
