Russian Armed Forces have no reason to shell Zaporozhzye NPP

11.08.2022, New York.

Claims that the Russian side is shelling the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP, which is under its control, are absurd. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya stated this during his speech at the UN Security Council on August 11.

“At the 10th NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) Review Conference currently taking place in New York cynical and absurd accusations of attacks on the ZNPP against Russia are heard from representatives of the Kiev regime, supported by several other delegations,” Nebenzya said.

He also noted that Kiev’s propaganda messages regarding the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant are immediately spread by the Western media.

According to Nebenzya, this completely contradicts common sense, since the ZNPP has been under the control of the Russian Armed Forces for a long time.

“Elementary logic suggests that our military has no reason to shell the plant, the city or themselves,” Nebenzya stressed.

The Ukrainian armed units opened fire on the Zaporozhye NPP, which is under the control of Russian troops. Artillery and rocket strikes were observed on August 8-7 and August 11.

According to the Russian side, a Tochka-U rocket hit no further than 400 meters from the first power unit of the plant. In addition, the shelling left only one power transmission line at the NPP undamaged.
