Officers of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) foiled an operation of Ukraine’s military intelligence service overseen by special services of NATO countries to hijack combat aircraft of the Russian army, the FSB Center for Public Relations informed on July 25.

The ministry’s report reads, “The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has uncovered and stopped an operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry to hijack combat aircraft of the Russian Air Force, which was overseen by NATO special services.”

In addition, it is noted that Ukrainian intelligence officers, “acting on behalf of the political leadership of their country,” were trying to recruit Russian military pilots for money and guarantees to obtain citizenship in EU countries.

The representatives of the Ukrainian army attempted to persuade them “to fly and land aircraft at airfields controlled by the Ukrainian army.”

The persons who tried to bribe the Russian Armed Forces pilots and their accomplices have been identified, the FSB wrote in a statement.
