Activists in Lithuania accused of espionage for friendship with Russia

Activists and public figures in Lithuania are accused of espionage for supporting friendship with Russia, coordinator of the Neighborliness Forum Erika Švenčionienė said on July 25 in a comment to BelTA.

Švenčionienė told about local activist Aleksey Greychus that the Lithuanian court recently sentenced.

“Aleksey was imprisoned for organizing the Immortal Regiment march. Also, he was the organizer of many rallies for preserving memorials. Aleksey Greychus campaigns for friendship with Russia, and this is why it was easy to ‘make’ him a Russian spy. Now media allege increasingly often that I will be next,” the Lithuanian activist said.

Also, Švenčionienė reported about her recent visit to another imprisoned Lithuanian public activist Algirdas Paleckis. “He sent his regards to everyone. In general in Lithuania today, the Neighborliness Forum is widely under attack. And this attack is orchestrated. But there is the other side of the story. They more we are attacked the more support we receive from people,” she concluded.
