Former Polish president calls for reducing Russian population to 50 million

10.07.2022, Warsaw.

The Western world must force a change of political system in Russia or reduce its population to 50 million people, former Polish President Lech Wałęsa said in an interview with Le Figaro on July 10.

The retired Polish politician listed all the ways to destroy Russia that he found appropriate. He expressed regret that Russia was “not destroyed” in the 1990s.

“We must force a change of political system or organize an uprising of the peoples,” Walesa said. “Russia has 60 peoples, we must raise these 60 peoples … or reduce it to a population of less than 50 million.”

At that, the Polish politician stated that when coup d’etat is organized by NATO countries, then it’s “expansion by democratic means,” but if it is China or Russia, then it is “violence” and usage “of the old method of annexation.”

“Russia should have been destroyed. But Gorbachev was too smart for that. So we left them alone,” Walesa said. “That was our mistake at the time. I wanted to do things differently, but they wouldn’t let me.”

Editorial Comment

The former Polish president regularly makes scandalous statements to the public and thus checks how the population of Poland and Russia will react to them. But Wałęsa has never gone so far in his Russophobia.

In Poland now it is an election year, and after Russia launched a special military operation for the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine, the rhetoric of various political forces has become vehemently anti-Russian. Although it used to be the prerogative of the ruling ultra-conservative Right and Justice party.

Apparently, the Polish authorities now need to measure how far they can go against Russia. Because their Russophobia is no longer a unique proposition for voters, and earning votes on Russophobic hysteria is vital for them not to lose power in 2023.
