Russia’s default? West will overblow tragedy but we do not care anymore — expert

27.06.2022, Moscow.

The West and Ukraine will by all means try to overblow the issue of “Russia’s default,” but this will not entail any actual consequences for Russia, said Yury Byaly, the Vice President of the Experimental Creative Center International Social Foundation (Kurginyan Center), on June 26 in a comment to the Rossa Primavera News Agency.

The expert commented a report by Bloomberg that a technical default would allegedly take place on the night of July 27 because of the expired deadlines for the public bond payments due to a technical failure to make the payments because of the West’s sanctions.

“I believe that this will entail no actual consequences for us,” Byaly said.

According to Byaly, Russia has actually been banned from paying on bonds. Meanwhile, investors that would wish to accept the payments in rubles or through conversion in third countries (with certain loss, of course) will be able to take their money, he believes.

“Certainly, our enemy partners, including the Ukrainian side, will try to overblow this into a global tragedy, but we do not care anymore,” Yury Byaly explained.
