The Russian troops and the LPR soldiers liberated the town of Svyatogorsk, located in the very north of the Donetsk region, Russkaya Vesna reported on June 7, citing a military source.

According to the source, the last Ukrainian army units were eliminated in the southern part of Svyatogorsk. The Russian army is mopping up the outskirts of the city. Some of the Ukrainian fighters were taken prisoner, and some dispersed along the bank of the river.

The Ukrainian command tried with all its might to hold the city. An order to blow up the bridge over the Seversky Donets River was given to prevent the Ukrainian militants from escaping.

“Under the onslaught of Russian units, the remnants of the battalions of the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian army and the 81st Separate Air Mobile Brigade of the Ukrainian army, cut off from the main forces and supplies as a result of the blowing-up of the bridge, abandoned all military equipment and weapons and scattered along the coast,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov.

About 80 Ukrainian fighters decided to swim across the Seversky Donets River. It is reported that there are drowned people. At the same time, the Russian army was ordered not to shoot at the swimmers.

“We consider the refusal of Ukrainian fighters to defend the Kiev regime led by nationalists as the only right thing to do, not cowardice,” Igor Konashenkov said.

The Defense Ministry once again urges the Ukrainian fighters to lay down their weapons and surrender, thereby saving their lives.

“For our part, we guarantee all those who have voluntarily laid down arms to be treated with dignity and returned to their families,” the Russian Defense Ministry official said.
