Putin congratulates the head of the LPR on the Day of the Republic

12.05.2022, Moscow.

The congratulatory address of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the head of the Lugansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik on the Day of the Republic was published on the president’s website on May 12.

According to the leader of the Russian state, the brotherly people from the Lugansk People’s Republic have to celebrate the holiday with weapons in their hands in order to protect their relatives and loved ones.

“The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance signed on February 21 will serve as a reliable basis for strengthening fraternal, allied ties between our countries,” Putin wrote.

As the Russian president noted, by uniting together, the countries will definitely defend “the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the LPR.”

During the seizure of power in Ukraine by nationalists in 2014, the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine decided not to obey the illegal authorities in Kiev. However, the new Ukrainian authorities did not accept the people’s will and launched military actions against the population of Donbas.

In 2022, Russia recognised the sovereignty of the LPR and DPR and launched a military special operation, one of the goals of which was to liberate these lands from the Ukrainian occupation.
