Does the UK want Germany to become dependent on British gas supplies?

02.05.2022, Moscow.

The UK is seeking Germany and other EU countries to refuse supplies of Russian gas, as it itself wants to become a gas hub for Northern Europe, The Essence of Time editorial reads.

“It is interesting that while demanding to punish Germany for its consumption of Russian gas, the UK simultaneously plans to increase gas production in the North Sea, hoping to become a gas hub for Northern Europe.

In addition, according to some experts, the rapid growth of Russian oil sales to India is partly due to the fact that it is bought by intermediary firms affiliated with the UK. And this is a common mechanism.

As a result, Russia sells its oil at good prices without reducing the volume, the intermediaries get their markup, Europe gets the oil, and the costs are to be paid by the population. The only question is when food riots will break out and who will come to power as a result of the crisis.”

As Rossa Primavera News Agency reported, the head of the largest German energy concern E.ON Leonhard Birnbaum said on May 2 that the German industry would not survive even two years without Russian gas.

“We won’t have any more steel or chemical industry, the consequences would be dramatic. So I can only caution against a gas embargo,” Birnbaum told the FAZ.

Nevertheless, under pressure from EU, US and British officials, German authorities have already blocked the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 and declared their intention to refuse Russian gas supplies.
