Ukrainian nationalists mined the dam of the Uglegorsk thermal power plant reservoir, Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, Director of the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation, told reporters on April 14.
“If it detonated, the city of Svetlodarsk, the villages of Myronovskiy, Luganskoye, and a number of others with a total population of more than 15,000 people would be in the possible flood zone,” he added.
According to Mizintsev, after the water has receded, the life support system of the population will be damaged on the entire territory affected by the flooding. This includes sewage systems, water supply, as well as sewage treatment facilities with tanks containing chemicals. This will lead to a sharp deterioration in the sanitary and epidemiological situation and the spread of infectious diseases in the area of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut in Ukraine).
