Militant from nationalist battalions tells why Ukraine shelled Svyatogorsk Moscow Patriarchate monastery

The Ukrainian army shelled the Svyatogorsk Lavra of the Moscow Patriarchate to incite believers against the Russian military, surrendered sergeant in the neo-Nazi Aidar battalion ( organization banned in Russia) Denis Nuryga said April 2. RIA Novosti published a video with his statement.

“Recently a monastery in Svyatogorsk was shelled, where people were. There were dead people there. This was all done on purpose, allegedly it was fired on by the Russian army. In fact, it is the Ukrainian army that is shelling at it in order to stir up the conflict against Russia,” Nuryga said.

According to him, the shelling came from Grad multiple rocket launchers, there were casualties in the monastery and two people were killed.

Svyatogorsk Lavra is located in Svyatogorsk, 15 km north of Slavyansk in the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, which has been under the control of the Ukrainian army for the past eight years.

On March 12, the Lavra was shelled, and the monastery’s hotel, the Dormition Cathedral, and the Intercession Church were damaged. Immediately after the shelling, Metropolitan Arseniy, the abbot of the monastery, stated that an air bomb had fallen near the bridge over the Seversky Donets.
