The unfriendly actions of the USA and the EU have shown that there is no confidence in the currencies of these countries. Therefore, Russian gas supplies to these countries will be paid in rubles, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the Russian government on March 23.
After the start of Russia’s special operation to denazify Ukraine, the West imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia. Putin mentioned one of the manifestations of sanctions pressure – the freezing of Russian assets abroad.
The president stressed that by such actions the West had defaulted on its obligations to Russia and demonstrated the unreliability of its currencies. After such actions, it became obvious that it makes no sense to supply Russian goods to the EU and the USA for payments in US dollars and euros now.
“Therefore, I have decided to implement in the shortest possible time a set of measures to transfer payment – let us start with this, with our natural gas – to transfer payment for our natural gas supplied to the so-called unfriendly countries to Russian rubles, that is, to abandon the use of all compromised currencies in such payments,” Putin said.
On February 24, Russia launched a military special operation in Donbass to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. To neutralize the response of the Ukrainian army, Russian troops carried out high-precision strikes on military infrastructure. Military warehouses, military airfields, and troop control points on Ukrainian territory were hit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed in his video message that civilian objects were not targets of the Russian military, and there was no threat to the civilian population of Ukraine. The leader of the state urged the Ukrainian army to lay down their weapons and go home. Putin stressed that Russia had no intention to occupy Ukrainian territory.
