Russian Deputy Prime Minister: Russia considers the possibility of banning uranium exports to the USA

21.03.2022, Moscow.

Russian authorities are considering the possibility of banning uranium exports to the United States as a response to anti-Russian sanctions, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a meeting with the LDPR faction on March 21.

“This issue is also on the agenda, it is being considered,” Novak said, responding to a question about Russian retaliatory measures against the United States.

Over the past six months, uranium exchange prices have doubled and approached the $60 per pound mark. The main uranium producers are Kazakhstan, Canada, Australia and Namibia.

Russia’s market share is 7%, but Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom is a joint venture with Rosatom. Russia also owns nearly half of the world’s uranium separation capacity.
