The DPR servicemen are completing the elimination of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian army, Major General Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, told reporters on March 21.
“A group of troops of the Donetsk People’s Republic is completing the elimination of the remnants of the 53rd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army,” the major general said. The DPR servicemen are developing an offensive in the direction of the village of Novomikhaylovka of the DPR’s Maryinskiy district, he specified.
Overnight in the area, Russian and DPR troops destroyed up to 50 fighters, three tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), two field artillery guns and four off-road vehicles, Konashenkov said.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. Russian leader Vladimir Putin stressed that the purpose of the special operation was to protect people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.
The special operation pre-empted an attack on the Donbass and Crimea that the Kiev regime was preparing for early March. On March 6, DPR head Denis Pushilin released evidence of the impending invasion, including a laptop with intelligence and NATO markings.
