Eyewitness: Ukrainian army shells and mines the maternity hospital before retreating

14.03.2022, Volnovakha.

The Ukrainian army shelled and booby-trapped a maternity hospital in the city of Volnovakha before they left the city, an employee of the city’s Central Regional Hospital told RIA Novosti on March 14.

According to him, people, including women in labor, were hiding in the basement of the hospital’s maternity ward. However, the retreating Kiev army despite this opened fire on the building and booby-trapped it.

“There were two tank shots. The first shot came at the second floor and we understand it didn’t have the turret down,” an eyewitness said.

“He drove up the hill, lowered the turret and fired right here, even though he knew we were here… The shell went through three walls completely,” the hospital employee added.

None of the civilians who were hiding understood why the tank crew fired those shots. The maternity ward continued its work even during the shelling.

According to an employee of the medical facility, the military could not contact their command, they changed their clothes and ran away, and before the liberation of the city they hid and could not contact their command.

“They booby-trapped it all … We survived it all and continue to live … and rebuild everything,” the eyewitness concluded.

After the shelling of the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics by Kiev-backed territories increased significantly, local authorities called on people to urgently evacuate to Russia and appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin for help.

After convening the Security Council of Russia on February 21, Putin signed relevant decrees and concluded agreements on friendship and mutual assistance. Beginning February 24, the Russian Armed Forces began a special operation to suppress the Ukrainian army, as well as to eradicate Nazi ideology in Ukraine.
