DPR warns of the danger of a chemical disaster in Avdeevka

14.03.2022, Donetsk.

A chemical disaster may occur in Avdeevka if the incident at the coke plant is not eliminated in time, said Eduard Basurin, spokesman for the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic, on March 14 on the Rossiya One TV channel.

Earlier, it was reported that on March 13, the militants of the nationalist battalions committed sabotage at the Avdeevka Coke Plant in Donetsk Region while retreating. As a result, a fire broke out on the territory of the plant, from which corrosive toxic smoke spread to adjacent villages and towns. However, the Ukrainian army are preventing the fire from being extinguished by blocking access to the facility for emergency services.

“Even take this case yesterday with Avdeevka. This could really become a big environmental disaster, a chemical disaster. If benzene spills out of the tanks onto the ground, this may have grave outcomes for a large territory, not only in Donetsk, Yasinovataya and Makeevka. Avdeevka can be affected, and if the wind blows somewhere else, it (benzene) is very volatile, inhalation will affect the lungs,” Basurin stressed.

On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. Putin called on the Ukrainian military not to follow the criminal orders of the Kiev command and to lay down their weapons.

Simultaneously with the start of the Russian Armed Forces’ operation for the demilitarization and denationalization of Ukraine, units of the People’s Militia of the LPR and DPR took the offensive in order to liberate the previously occupied territories of the republics by Kiev.

Since the start of the special operation, units of the republics have advanced more than 70 km deep into the Ukrainian defense.
