Shoigu: Thousands of volunteers from the Middle East want to help Donbass

11.03.2022, Moscow.

More than 16,000 volunteers from the Middle East want to come to the LPR and DPR, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on March 11 at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with permanent members of the Security Council.

He noted that a large number of applications are coming in from volunteers who want to come to the DPR and LPR “to participate in what they consider as a liberation movement.”

Shoigu stressed that the largest number of applications came from the Middle East – more than 16,000. “Many of them we know, they helped in the fight against ISIL (organization banned in the Russian Federation),” the minister said.

Putin supported the idea of sending volunteers to Ukraine. He noted that if people want to volunteer to help people living in Donbas, “we should meet their wishes and help them move to the war zone.”
