The death of the commander of the separate reconnaissance battalion “Sparta” Guard Colonel Vladimir Zhoga, who was defending civilians in Donbass, came during the shelling of evacuated civilians by Ukrainian Nazis, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin wrote on Telegram on March 5.
“Today in Volnovakha the commander of the separate reconnaissance battalion “Sparta” Guard Colonel Vladimir Zhoga, call sign Vokha, died a heroic death. <…> I signed a decree awarding Vladimir Artemovich Zhoga the title of Hero of the Donetsk People’s Republic – posthumously,” Pushilin wrote.
He said that Vladimir Zhoga died from a fatal wound, which he received while evacuating civilians from the village of Volnovakha. Ukrainian Nazis opened fire on women and children trying to leave the war zone, preventing the deaths of innocent people Guard Colonel Zhoga heroically gave his life.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to a request for assistance from the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics recognized by Russia, which suffered another wave of aggression by Ukrainian punishers, decided to conduct a special military operation to demilitarize and denationalize Ukraine.
Despite the Russian Defense Ministry’s agreements with the Ukrainian side to open humanitarian corridors on March 5, Ukrainian nationalists continued to forcibly detain civilians in the cities, using them as shields, and used the declared “silence regime” to regroup their forces.
