Kiev residents can freely leave the capital of Ukraine via the Kiev-Vasylkiv highway, the Russian Defense Ministry said in an official statement on February 28.

“All civilians in the city can freely leave the capital of Ukraine via the Kiev-Vasilkov highway,” the statement reads.

This direction is open and safe, stressed in the ministry.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special Russian military operation in Ukraine in connection with the appeal of the heads of the DPR and LPR for help. As the president stressed, the purpose of the operation is “to protect people who have been subjected to abuse, genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.”

“And for this purpose, we will strive to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, as well as to bring to justice those who have committed numerous, bloody crimes against civilians,” Putin said.

The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the Russian military is not carrying out any strikes on residential areas of Ukrainian cities, but is putting military infrastructure out of action.
