Russian Defense Ministry: Nationalists terrorize civilians in Mariupol

27.02.2022, Moscow.

Right Sector assault units (organization banned in Russia) are terrorizing civilians in Mariupol, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said during a briefing on February 27.

According to Konashenkov, assault detachments of the Ukrainian Nazi organization Right Sector (organization banned in the Russian Federation), which arrived from Lvov Region, “are terrorizing civilians in Mariupol. The nationalists are placing armored vehicles and artillery in residential areas, using the local population as a human shield.

On February 24, the armed forces of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics went on the offensive to liberate Ukrainian-occupied territories. This was preceded by an aggravation on the contact line caused by an intensification of the shelling from the Ukrainian side.

On the same day, Russia announced the start of a special operation to denacify and demilitarize Ukraine. On the first day, Ukrainian military airfields, air defense forces, and other military infrastructure were attacked with precision-guided weapons, after which the Russian military entered the country.

The reason for the Russian troops entering Ukraine was Kiev’s refusal to implement the Minsk agreements after 8 years of attempts at a peaceful settlement in the Donbass.
