Troops of the Donetsk People’s Republic are completing the defeat of reserve units of the Vostok operational-tactical group of the Ukrainian army, said Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, during a briefing on February 27.
“Units of the Donetsk People’s Republic armed forces have advanced another 3 kilometers in the direction of Petrovskoye and are completing the defeat of the Vostok operational-tactical group’s reserves,” Konashenkov said.
He added that the DPR People’s Militia took control of the settlements of Andreevka and Anadol on February 24, advancing 3 kilometers in the direction of Petrovskoye.
Earlier, it was reported that DPR troops captured the village of Donskoye north of Andreevka. These settlements are located not far from the highway connecting Mariupol and Volnovakha.
The Luhansk People’s Republic army, according to Konashenkov, has already advanced 56 kilometers deep into the Ukrainian positions and is “rapidly expanding its offensive.”
On February 24, the armed forces of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics went on the offensive to liberate Ukrainian-occupied territories. This was preceded by an aggravation on the contact line caused by an intensification of shelling from the Ukrainian side.
On the same day, Russia announced the start of a special military operation in Donbass. High-precision weapons strikes were launched against Ukrainian military airfields, air defense forces, and other military infrastructure. On the same day, Russian military forces entered Ukrainian territory.
The purpose of the Russian military operation is to aid the DPR and LPR, as well as the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. Eight years of attempting to peacefully resolve the Donbass conflict proved fruitless due to Kiev’s refusal to implement the Minsk agreements.
