If Kiev starts an armed operation in Donbass, Russia will be forced to conduct an operation to force Ukraine to peace. Journalist, military expert, and editor-in-chief of the magazine National Defense Igor Korotchenko said this in a commentary for Rossa Primavera News Agency on February 18.
“Obviously, all the data indicate that an armed operation of the Ukrainian army with an attempted blitzkrieg in Donbass is possible,” Korotchenko said. According to the military expert, for this reason, Donetsk and Lugansk are taking appropriate measures to evacuate the civilian population.
“I believe in this situation Russia will have only one option left – it is to conduct an operation to force Ukraine to peace,” the journalist stressed. He explained that this option will turn out if the armed forces of Ukraine will really attack Donbass.
On 18 February, the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the population, in particular children and the elderly, to Russia. In Russia, the authorities of Crimea and the Rostov Region announced their readiness to accept refugees from Donbass.
According to Rossa Primavera News Agency, a civil defense siren is sounding in Donetsk, and there are lines at ATMs and gas stations. Schools and orphanages are being evacuated from the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic.
