04.02.2022, Berlin.

The Ukrainian embassy in Germany had presented the German Foreign Ministry with a list of weapons it needs and asked to process the request immediately, writes German daily the Süddeutsche Zeitung on February 4.

The document includes a list of specific weapons that Kiev would like to receive from Germany: from “air and missile defense combat equipment” to “ammunition for automatic guns with 23 and 30 mm caliber.” For instance, Ukraine wants to get armored vehicles, robotic mine clearance systems and remote control systems for detonating shells, walkie-talkies, radars, reconnaissance stations and much more.

Moreover, the document mentions that the list of weapons presented to the German Foreign Ministry is incomplete and, if necessary, can be expanded. Ukrainian Ambassador Andriy Melnyk even said that if German Chancellor Scholz arrives in Kiev on February 14 empty-handed, “he should not to expect a warm welcome.

Recently, German media continuously has been publishing reports that Russia is preparing an attack on Ukraine, and the latter demands that Germany to supply the weapons. The UK has delivered at least 2,000 NLAW anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine. The US has also sent military supplies to Ukraine. Germany limited itself to supplying 5,000 military helmets and promised to supply a fully-equipped military hospital.

Ukraine was dissatisfied with such help from Germany and continues its demands to supply the weapons. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was accused by the media, as well as by many experts and politicians, of a wishy-washy approach towards Russia. Some experts even spoke about the threat of Germany losing trust among NATO partners due to the ban on the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

On February 15, talks between Olaf Scholz and Vladimir Putin are scheduled in Moscow, the main topic of the conversation will be the crisis in Ukraine. Prior to his arrival to Moscow, the Chancellor will meet in Washington on Monday with US President Joe Biden. Then on Tuesday, the German chancellor will host French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish President Andrzej Duda at a crisis summit in Berlin. On February 14, Scholz will arrive in Kiev, and after that he will go to Moscow.
