In response to the negative reaction of the United States and NATO to our security proposals, Russia needs to build a policy aimed at integration of Donbass or southeastern Ukraine or strengthening their independence, scholar of the American studies and political scientist Rafael Ordukhanyan said to Rossa Primavera News Agency on February 2.
“We have to build our concept now. And it should certainly be in essence aimed at integrating these regions into Russia or at [their achievement of the status of] an independent state. That would be the best answer!” the political scientist stated.
He noted that as soon as Russia begins to move in the direction marked by these geopolitical goals, the position of our “opponents” will immediately change and become more concrete.
“And believe me, when we start these processes, our so-called opponents, who have long been our enemies, will very, very quickly stop ambiguously expressing themselves and start real negotiations,” Ordukhanyan stressed.
According to him, when NATO turns down Moscow’s principal requests, it is necessary to act in accordance with the actual state of affairs, not with political rhetoric.
“First, NATO does not want to negotiate and does not guarantee our security. So we have to take care of [ourselves]. Second, no one guarantees us peace in Donbass and southeastern Ukraine,” the political scientist explained the current agenda of political relations between Russia and the West.
On February 2, the Spanish daily newspaper El Pais published photos of pages of documents containing the official response of NATO and the United States to Russia’s proposals on security guarantees.
Later, the Pentagon and the State Department officially confirmed the authenticity of these documents. The Kremlin declined to comment on the information obtained via this channel.
