Prosecutor General’s Office accuses foreign agent non-profit organization of making false image of USSR

The Memorial center (a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent) creates a false image of the USSR, a spokesperson of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia Aleksey Zhafyarov said at a session of the Supreme Court, RBK reported on December 28.

According to Zhafyarov, Memorial (a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent) presents the USSR as a terrorist state that committed political repressions. Also, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office official, the non-profit organization revises the memory of the Great Patriotic War.

Moreover, the Prosecutor General’s Office accused Memorial (a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent) of rehabilitation of Nazi criminals and those who betrayed our country.

The “Memorial international historical, educational, charity, and human rights society” (a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent) was put in the register of foreign agents in 2016.

Also, this non-profit organization received protection from Mikhail Gorbachev and Editor-in-Chief of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov. The Human Rights Council expressed the position that potential closure Memorial (a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent) would be unfair.
