How will the "Turkish lobby" in Russia respond to cultural cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey?

Ukraine and Turkey launched a war against the Soviet period of Russian history, and this requires an answer from the supporters of rapprochement between Russia and Turkey in the Russian government, The Essence of Time newspaper’s editorial reads on November 12.

On November 7, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey Vasiliy Bodnar stated that the history of Ukraine and the history of Ukrainian-Turkish relations, in particular, has been taught under the influence of Soviet-Russian narratives for a long period of time. One of the directions of cultural diplomacy in Turkey will be further work in the archives, studying original documents, opening new pages of historical interaction, refuting existing distortions.

We would like to know how our Turkish lobby in the government will respond to this accusation. Will they once again limit Turkish fruit imports? It is one thing not to recognize Crimea and another to wage war against the Soviet period in the history of Russia. After all, it is clear that they will not stop there.

Bodnar said that recently the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Turkey, Dmitriy Kuleba and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, agreed to create a bilateral commission of historians and scholars dealing with a common history, including based on archives available in our countries. “Original documents should be studied and unknown pages of our common history should be opened and stereotypes or distortions should be refuted,” Bodnar said.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey believes that the “southern direction of Ukrainian foreign policy” is still poorly described and studied, although it represents for independent Ukraine a very important component of foreign policy.

Also, according to the diplomat, the Ukrainian side is ready to work closely with Turkey on language issues.
