Russia is smaller and weaker than the USSR, and besides those who have receded from their basic idea meet no respect on the globe. This is why they talk to Russia as they never talked to the Soviet Union, said political scientist, doctor of political sciences, professor of the Moscow State University Sergey Chernyakhovsky on November 8 in an interview to the Rossa Primavera News Agency
“The Russian society is facing numerous issues and problems. In particular, restoration of territorial integrity, the sphere of influence, and industrial capacity we used to have by 1990.” Chernyakhovsky noted. According to the political scientist, Russia today is economically weaker than Russia was in 1990.
Chernyakhovsky indicated that Russia only suffered losses from the collapse of the Soviet project in 1990s:
“The country lost its industrial potential, territory, authority on the globe. Why do they dare to talk to us as they never dared to talk to the Soviet Union? Not only because the Soviet Union was stronger. To a great extent, this is because those who have receded from their basic idea meet no respect on the globe, especially in the US.”
As a result of perestroika, the Soviet Union fell apart into 15 republics. The disintegration of the country and devastating economic reforms brought most of the population on the verge of starvation.
After perestroika followed by the Gaidar reforms, the people lost most of the social achievements obtained as a result of the Great October Socialist Revolution.
