Kiev remains confident that the West needs anti-Russian Ukraine, but it has already realized that Russia is not ready to pay for its sovereign existence, Rossa Primavera News Agency editorial published on October 4 reads.
The existence of an anti-Russian Ukraine at Russia’s expense was an ideal option for the aggregate West, and above all the United States and Great Britain. Now it is impossible, but the Ukrainian authorities are simply not capable of prolonging the state’s existence without “subsidies.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on October 4, actually confirmed this, and explained the delay with EU integration and the search for the main “sponsor” by the fact that “the European Union has very difficult times ahead” and “it is in a somewhat confused state.”
“Kuleba says openly that by integrating Ukraine, the EU will have to assume the costs of its maintenance. Regardless of what state the EU is in, European integration will still result in distribtuing of resources of the EU in favor of Ukraine, because things will be worse in Ukraine anyway.
In his interview, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed a certain idea that the Ukrainian authorities are focused on. This idea is that the West, primarily the USA and United Kingdom, desperately need Ukraine as an anti-Russian outpost.
Until recently, the ideal option was that Ukraine’s existence was paid for by Russia. Now that Russia has refused to do so, someone has to replace it.
With a split in Europe looming on the horizon and the United Kingdom recently leaving the European Union, it would not be a bad idea to hand the bill for this anti-Russian option to the weakening EU, and specifically to Germany.
Ukraine will, on the one hand, like a tick, suck all sorts of resources from the EU, and on the other hand, the United Kingdom and Turkey will sharpen it for confrontation with Russia.
