Member of Ukrainian Parliament: It is a pity that Kiev is not able to blackmail the whole world

29.07.2021, Kiev.

Ukraine’s renunciation of nuclear weapons was a fatal mistake, leader of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People party David Arakhamia said on July 29 on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel.

Arakhamia said that if former Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk had not committed this mistake [renounced nuclear weapons], “they would now be talking to Kiev differently and negotiating differently.”

“We could blackmail the whole world,” the Ukrainian deputy dreamily declared and continued, “we would have been given money for maintenance, as it happens now in many other countries.”

In Soviet times, the territory of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic hosted an impressive group of armed forces of the Soviet Union, including a considerable nuclear potential.

In 1994, Soviet nuclear weapons on the territory of independent Ukraine were destroyed in connection with the accession of the newly formed country to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
