Russian Foreign Ministry: Poland is sliding from Russophobia to justification of fascism

01.07.2021, Moscow.

A shift from Russophobia and falsification of history to partial justification of fascism can be observed in Poland’s intellectual circles, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 1 during a briefing.

According to the Russian diplomat, on June 17, the Institute of National Remembrance in Poland organized a conference on the 80th anniversary of the Nazi invasion in the USSR. During the event, “pseudo-scientists” said that the conflict between Nazi Germany and the USSR “was beneficial for Poles. In their view, the invasion of the Germans in 1941, “was perceived by the inhabitants of the former Polish outlying districts – western Belarus and Ukraine – as deliverance.”

Zakharova noted that the Russophobia of the Polish authorities in recent years has surpassed all limits. “Observing the gradual evolution of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance from the oblivion through Russophobia and historical falsification to partial justification of man-hating fascism, I would like to warn all those who have not yet understood: this is what makes rewriting history in order to suit the momentary political situation dangerous,” she stressed.

At the same time, according to her, neither the authorities, nor the “pseudo-scientific falsifiers” in Poland know “such notions as historical memory, sorrow and respect for history.”

The Russian diplomat noted that Russia will not ignore attempts by Warsaw to revise history from the positions “close to the ideological accomplices of the Nazis.”

Zakharova was surprised that Polish citizens have to be reminded that “Hitler’s regime brought enslavement and death to them, Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Jews, Lithuanians and other peoples.”
