Syrian army clashes with Islamists in the desert

A combat between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and ISIL (organization banned in Russia) is underway in the Syrian desert, a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s source in Syria informed on May 6.

“The SAA clashes with ISIL (organization banned in Russia) in the vicinity of Mount al-Amuri in the west of As-Suchna in the Syrian desert,” the source reported. Details of the clashes are being clarified.

The Syrian military source Marqab reported on Twitter that the Islamists suffered significant losses and were forced to retreat from key villages and towns in the area.

“The position of ISIL (organization banned in Russia) in the desert will now be much worse than it was a couple of months ago,” the source wrote.

A military operation against ISIL (organization banned in Russia) is underway in the Syrian desert. It involves two divisions of the Syrian army, the 5th Volunteer Assault Corps created with the participation of Russia, as well as allied Palestinian formations of Al-Quds.
