Kurginyan: All hell will break loose if difference between “freedom to” and “freedom from” is erased

Freedom from responsibility, morality, and religious norms leads to dehumanization, said political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on April 26 on the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on Russia One channel.

The global debate about the human right to freedom is focused on whether it is better (freedom) or worse while no one is talking about what has long been articulated by all the great philosophers in the world, including Hegel. Philosophers identify two types of freedom: freedom “from” and freedom “to”, noted Kurginyan.

“There is freedom from rules and commandments – from everything, but there is also freedom to have certain high goals and ideals. Freedom to pursue theosis or freedom from religious norms. What kind of freedom are we talking about? If all freedom is taken and stifled, and this freedom for personal ascension is abolished, then there will be a monstrous society, but if we take freedom ‘to’ and freedom ‘from’ and make them equal – it will be hell, it will be a place of abomination and outrage,” said the analyst, explaining that this type of freedom will be freedom from responsibility, from morality, from religious norms, from everything.

Making freedom “from” equal to freedom “to” leads to dehumanization, noted the leader of the Essence of Time movement.

And currently, erasing the difference between these two types of freedom is taking place. Freedom ‘from’ and freedom ‘to’ cease to exist as a distinction,” said the political scientist, adding that, in fact, the issues of democracy and freedom are much more complicated than one might imagine.
